Photography classes start in April!

Hey everyone,

The website has gone live for The Aperture Lab!!! Take a minute to look around and maybe sign up for a class or two…

Looking for some fun photography classes???

Hello everyone,

I know I have been lacking in updates on here, but I have been super busy!

Starting in spring of 2015 I will be teaching photography classes at The Aperture Lab in Charlotte! If you have been wanting to learn photography basics of how to use your digital camera (Point and Shoot or DSLR), advanced DSLR techniques, or my personal favorite Working With On and Off camera flash/strobes, you will have a new, fun place to go!

We will not be teaching these classes in the traditional stuffy or stare at slide show manner, they will be fun, hands on, and informative classes teaching you real world usable skills. What do I mean by real world? I mean teaching you how to capture those precious family moments at birthdays, vacations, recitals, etc, etc.

We are not looking to teach you how to be a professional photographer, that takes years of dedication, mastering your craft, business skills, and commitment. We certainly can help you achieve that, but our primary goal is to teach you how to be an awesome photographer!

Eight Sushi and Asian Kitchen…

Anyone who knows me, knows I love food! So getting hired to shoot a restaurant is one of my dream clients! Eight is a new restaurant at the NC Music Factory, it is located next to Osso. Eight specializes in Sushi and Asian cuisine and supports local farmers! They use local farms for appetizers and small plates, and they even used a local artist for all of the graffiti artwork in the restaurant. Be sure to check out Eight as soon as you can, you will not be disappointed!!

Really!? Stan Lee!? OMG RU KIDDING!?!?!?!

Today I have a short story for you (with images of course), a prequel if you will, about the meeting of CJ Draden and Lift-Off Studios, a meeting which lead to Lift-Off’s imagery being published in a graphic novel endorsed by Comic Creator Legend… Stan… Wait for it… LEE!!!!

CJ Draden and Lift-Off Studios met at HerosCon 2013 in Charlotte a year ago; CJ creates his art on Glass Panes with his own inks and a process similar to scratch boarding. His work is truly one of a kind, BUT when I saw his Pinocchio creation I was shocked. It was so unique and you could tell it was a part of CJ. Standing/Hanging at five feet tall, it is created from all reclaimed parts and pieces.

After talking with CJ for a little while I told him that I wanted to bring some equipment in the following day to take some shots of it and he said “sure!”. Needless to say he liked what he saw after I sent the images over to him. This lead to CJ inviting me to NY Comic Con 2013 to be his personal photographer and then again to work with him at MegaCon 2014… Which of course brings us to the present and the impending C2E2 2014 trip…

CJ explained that he felt my imagery of his creation brought such a sense of realism to the graphic novel and that at least one of the images had to be in the book… Next he proceeded to explain how he met Stan Lee and after seeing his work Stan Lee gave him a personal endorsement on the project!

I am incredibly thankful to have gotten to be a part of CJ’s journey and I can’t wait to see what we do next… And yes, CJ and I do have a little photography project planned to take place in the next few months, so stay tuned and please go check out CJ’s art work…

It’s been a while…

Hello everyone,

I know it has been quiet a while since anything has been posted here… Lift-Off went through some growing pains this past year, but it is still here and growing stronger everyday! A lot has changed since the last posting on this blog so, here are the cliff notes as to what has been happening.

1) Lift-Off Photography is now Lift-Off Studios
2) Lift-Off now has a 3,200sqft commercial studio space complete with a 16’x25′ Infinity Wall
3) Jon is no longer with the Studio, we wish him the best in his new ventures
4) Lift-Off went to NY Comic Con 2013, to Megacon 2014 and is looking forward to C2E2 2014 and NYCC 2014
5) The studio has expanded into Commercial Photography and is still doing Personal Photography
6) We got the October 2013 cover of Crusin’ Style Magazine with the 1937 Green Hotrod seen here before
7) We have a new website
8) You can follow us on Twitter @liftoffstudios

Well, I think that hits on some of the major points from the past months. This blog will become fully active again starting April 1st, so keep an eye out for some amazing photography and fun random blogs as well…

Thank you for your support!!!!

Mirrors are such a great tool for photographers. It’s one thing to already see the world in a different perspective; but to be able to “see” everything you see from a different vantage point is always fun. I read once … Continue reading

David and I photographed several cars this past weekend at the Cars & Coffee event where several different types of cars from all over came by to show off their rides. We had a lot of fun photographing and talking with some great car owners. Enjoy some of the finals:
